Lottery Sit 'N Go tournaments are all the rage now, and Microgaming is the latest developer to get in on the action, but with a unique Microgaming twist.
It was revealed by Microgaming Poker Network head Alex Scott that the company is set to launch its own SNG with a variable prize pool on July 12th of this year. However, instead of the limited amounts being offered by other poker rooms and websites, the MPN prize pool will increase like a standard progressive jackpot and could end up being worth millions.
In the past year and a half, various poker rooms such as PokerStars and Party Poker have released lottery Sit 'N Go tournaments, which have proven to be extremely popular. These 3 or 4 handed winner-take-all SNGs have various buy in levels and once the tournament begins, a random multiplier is applied to the buy-ins in order to determine the total prize pool. So a 3-handed tournament with a $1 buy-in may be worth anywhere from $2 to $30,000, depending on the random spin.
These tournaments have been extremely popular on poker sites, with some sites like PokerStars also using the format for million-dollar payouts and other promotions. Microgaming's is going to be different, though, and perhaps much more interesting.
MPN's lottery SNG will instead feature a progressive jackpot, just like the slot jackpots the company has become famous for. With the working title of Fish Party Sit and Go, these tournaments will feature an average jackpot of around €1 million, with an extremely generous 5 per cent of the rake going towards building the jackpot.
The company hopes that this innovation will fuel future growth in their poker brand, as well as spur online involvement off the tables. MPN has plans to stream winning lottery poker SNGs on Twitch and find other ways to involve the poker community in their innovative games.
